“Once a month, I have the privilege of contributing by working in the footwear section. Together, we sort, organise, and distribute these essential items to asylum seekers, restoring a sense of dignity and the ability to choose what they need. This work, imbued with solidarity, transforms mere shoes into symbols of respect and hope for those who live in exile.

I would also like to pay a heartfelt tribute to the entire team, whose positive energy and unwavering commitment provide support and comfort to those in desperate situations. Our past and present coordinators, the kitchen staff, the security team, and every volunteer work hand in hand with passion. Every guest who steps through the door of the drop-in leaves with a smile, and it is in these moments of connection that the true magic of our work is revealed.
The impact of this volunteer work on my life is immeasurable. As an asylum seeker, despite the difficulties and uncertainties inherent in my situation, working at the LJS Drop-In has allowed me to find the strength within myself to overcome many challenges. This experience has given me a refuge, a chance to rebuild myself, and above all, a reason to believe in the future. Contributing to this project is not merely a volunteer commitment—it is an act of faith in humanity that transforms the pain of exile into hope and resilience.
As a defender of human rights, I have learned that volunteer work is much more than mere service—it is a mission to save lives. Every gesture counts, and through my commitment, I have witnessed that even the smallest acts of solidarity can provide comfort and support to those in distress. This work also strengthens our team spirit and our collective ability to help even more those in need, ensuring that everyone may live with dignity, love, and harmony with themselves and others.
I have also heard moving testimonies from some guests about the kindness of this drop-in. People, sometimes arriving in a state of anger, leave with a smile and a renewed sense of hope. These exchanges perfectly illustrate the profound and transformative impact of this project.
The LJS Drop-In is not just a charity house—it is a centre of rejuvenation where compassion and solidarity transform sorrow into joy. It is an honour and a privilege to be able to contribute, in my own humble way, to this magnificent project that restores hope to so many lives.
With all my gratitude and commitment,” – Crispus, Volunteer of 3 years
